Language study offers opportunities to consider other perspectives, to explore the world, and may even lead you toward your dream job.  Also, numerous opportunities for travel, scholarships, and internships are available to students studying a foreign language.

To begin your language study at Lipscomb (if you want to continue studying a language you have already taken in high school or at another University or college), you will need to take a placement test. This test allows us to enroll you in the course that best matches your language ability.  Our placement test is available to students wishing to take French, German, or Spanish as well as for those wishing to evaluate their English language skills.  The test is given on-line and can be found at:

https://www.aetip.com/student/RegisterStudent.cfm

The cost of the test is $10.00 and usually takes 15-20 minutes to complete.

Your score on this test will be a good indicator as to whether you should take a CLEP test which will give you credit  for the language you have studied.  The placement test itself does NOT give college credit, but it will save you time and money ($65 dollars a test!) by indicating that you are likely (or not so likely) to pass a CLEP test.  Once you have completed the test, please notify Dr. Charles Mcvey or Dr. Kelly Kidder. Either of these professors can help you interpret your score and give you the information you need regarding which course you should plan to take.

If you do well on the PLACEMENT TEST, you will want to also take the CLEP test.  The CLEP test is giving by the testing center which is also located in ELAM Hall.  You must take a CLEP test before you have completed the course for which you want to receive credit.  For example, if you want credit for French 1125, you should take the CLEP test before enrolling in that class. Otherwise, it is impossible to determine if you knew the material on the CLEP test prior to taking the class.
